Dear Loneliness

Noel David

--

I’ve been meaning to write to you

I’m writing to let you know that you’ve overstayed your welcome. I enjoyed having you around at first, but decades of this is a bit too much. And I think having you around so long has caused me to spend too much money. Loneliness, you’re a really expensive habit to break.

Loneliness, you worsen on the weekends. Weekdays are busy, with plenty of contact with people, but when the weekend hits, you come on strong. I need a break from you.

Don’t be confused, I like your pal Alone Time quite a bit. Alone Time and I get along very well. But Loneliness, you have a way of creeping in to my head when I’m hanging out with Alone Time.

Loneliness, I’ve noticed that there’s nothing I can do to make you go away when I’m feeling you. I don’t drink anymore, but drinking would make you worse. I don’t take drugs anymore either. But I do drink a lot of coffee.
